Neuhausen liegt südöstlich von Cottbus beiderseits der Spree. Die Ortsteile Haasow und Groß Döbbern zählen zum anerkannten Siedlungsgebiet der Sorben/Wenden.
Am 19. September 2004 wurden die Gemeinden Bagenz, Drieschnitz-Kahsel, Frauendorf, Gablenz, Groß Döbbern, Groß Oßnig, Haasow, Kathlow, Klein Döbbern, Komptendorf, Koppatz, Laubsdorf, Neuhausen, Roggosen und Sergen zur neuen Gemeinde Neuhausen/Spree zusammengeschlossen. Das Amt Neuhausen/Spree wurde aufgelöst.
