Auf gut 250 km verbindet der Radfernweg Furt und Fährprahm, imposante Schwebefähren aus der Kaiserzeit mit neuzeitlichen Brückenbauten und Tunnelbauten.
In der Urlaubsregion Altes Land am Elbstrom führt der Radweg zunächst entlang der Oste, die sich zwischen Deichen gen Mündung in Balje schlängelt. Zwei historische Prahmfähren bei Brobergen und Gräpel, eine davon sogar handbetrieben, und eine der weltweit noch erhaltenen acht Schwebefähren können Sie an diesem beschaulichen Fluss bestaunen und zur Überfahrt nutzen.
Elbaufwärts geht es von der Ostemündung - meist mit Rückenwind - bis nach Wischhafen. Wer nun noch weiter will, der nimmt die Fähre nach Glückstadt und setzt seine Tour entlang des belebten Nord-Ostsee-Kanals bis nach Kiel fort.
