Die französische Stadt Le Puy-en-Velay liegt im Département Haute-Loire in der Region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes und ist mit 19.215 Einwohnern die größte Stadt des Départements. Die Stadt ist Sitz der Präfektur des Départements. Die Präfektur verwaltet auch das Arrondissement Le Puy-en-Velay.Die Stadt ist wegen ihrer eigentümlichen Lage in vulkanischer Landschaft ein bedeutendes Touristenziel. Am 18. März 1988 wurde der Name der Stadt von Le Puy in Le Puy-en-Velay geändert.
