Der Hafen Genua ist flächenmäßig der größte Seehafen Italiens. Gemessen am Güterumschlag war er 2016 mit rund 50 Millionen Tonnen nach dem Hafen Triest der zweitgrößte Hafen des Landes, bei den Passagierzahlen stand er mit über drei Millionen Gästen an siebter Stelle. Der Naturhafen in der Mandraccio-Bucht wurde schon in der Antike genutzt und war später mehrere Jahrhunderte lang das Zentrum der maritimen Aktivitäten der Seerepublik Genua.
