Der Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal ist der Kanal zwischen Amsterdam und Tiel (vom IJ zur Waal). Er verbindet den Amsterdamer Hafen mit dem Ruhrgebiet (Deutschland) und ist der am stärksten befahrene Kanal der Welt. Der Kanal ist 72 Kilometer lang, 100 bis 120 Meter breit und 6 Meter tief.
Im Jahr 1931 wurde per Gesetz festgelegt, dass der Kanal gebaut werden musste. Die Krise und der Zweite Weltkrieg verzögerten jedoch den Bau. Erst am 21. Mai 1952 wurde der Kanal von Königin Juliana über die gesamte Länge von 72 Kilometern eröffnet.
