In Nyköping machte Königin Christina einen kurzen Halt im Schloss, in dem Königinmutter Maria Eleanora lebte, um sich von ihr zu verabschieden. Es war das letzte Mal, dass sich die beiden Frauen trafen: Maria Eleonora würde innerhalb eines Jahres sterben. Die Beziehung zwischen ihnen war problematisch, nicht zuletzt aufgrund der dunklen Jahre, in denen Mutter und Kind nach dem Tod von König Christinas Vater, König Gustaf Adolf, in Nyköping zusammenlebten. Die Burg brannte 1665 zusammen mit der Stadt ab. Später wurden Teile der Anlage umgebaut. Von der ursprünglichen Burg ist das Torhaus (zwischen der Burg und der Kirche direkt gegenüber) am besten erhalten. Heute wird das Gebäude als historisches Museum genutzt. (Stich aus dem 17.
