In the Middle Ages, Geest and its dependency Gérompont were united in the village of Geest-Gérompont. At the end of the ancien régime, this became an independent municipality. In 1822, the municipality was dissolved again and merged with Petit-Rosière to form Geest-Gérompont-Petit-Rosière. This municipality merged in 1971 with Bomal and Mont-Saint-André, and the merged municipality was simply named Gérompont. The merged municipality ceased to exist in 1977 and became part of Ramillies.
