It may be hard to imagine, but about eighteen centuries ago, the Haspengouw landscape was dotted with whitewashed villas and monumental tumuli (villa is the Latin term for a farm, and tumulus means hill or burial mound). In Gingelom, there are six Gallo-Roman tumuli located in three different places: the Avernassentom, the Twee Tommen, and the Drie Tommen. These sites are arranged in an experiential way and give you a glimpse of the Gallo-Roman period in Haspengouw.
