The Beaver Path

Visit the Koningshofke and the Carp House along the Rupelmond creek. This was formed 300 years ago after a devastating dike breach. Since then, the area has grown into a highly valuable and exceptional alluvial alder swamp forest, characterized by black alder, ash, yellow iris, and hop as typical plants for this area with higher water levels, interspersed with old riverbanks and ridges. Some parts of the area are older than 200 years and for that reason exceptional and protected at the European level. Furthermore, these inaccessible forests are home to rare mammals such as roe deer, beavers, otters, and rare fish such as the mud loach and bitterling, with the kingfisher as a fisherman. The Rupelmond creek is clear of water and rich in fish, which is why it is regularly visited by the ospreys.
