For this walk we leave at the coach house of castle de Renesse in Oostmalle. We follow an erratic nature trail and end up at the ice cellar, where a bat colony has currently taken up residence. Through the former steward's house we reach the ancient 'Salphen'. In this remote hamlet, the farmhouses, some of which are built in typical Franconian long-gabled style, immediately catch the eye. In the St. Anthony's Chapel there, the ancient St. Anthony's Basilica is still celebrated, including the sale of pig heads.

Then you step through the 's Herenbos, which was part of the hunting forests of the counts de Renesse. Here it is immediately noticeable that the valuable forest flora and fauna are well protected; and there are still several remnants of the French landscape garden and the noble fantasies of the past.
