The Schlossgartenbahn Karlsruhe is a park railway with a gauge of 600 mm, which operates on a 2.7-kilometer long circular route with only one station through the Karlsruhe Palace Gardens.
The Schlossgartenbahn was built on the occasion of the Federal Garden Show in 1967 in Karlsruhe. Four train sets in the colors dark blue, light blue, red, and yellow coped with the surge of crowds at that time. Two trains, the red and the light blue, were removed at the end of the Federal Garden Show to be used at other garden shows. The original plan was to completely dismantle the railway at the end of the Federal Garden Show, but the people of Karlsruhe had grown too fond of their "Bähnle" and did not want to give it up. Only after long and extremely difficult negotiations did the government allow continued operation, albeit with significant conditions. From then on, the railways were not allowed to carry any advertising, and a new depot had to be built, as the existing shed was located on the premises of the allotment garden.
