Description

The nature trail leads through the historically evolved cultural landscape of the Wettiner porphyry area and the adjacent floodplain of the Saale river near Mücheln.
On about 2.5 km, the unique porphyry landscape can be explored. Information boards provide insights into the special features of this natural area. The topics of geology and landscape history, flora and fauna, soil and vegetation, as well as witnesses of the historically evolved cultural landscape are presented here.
The path runs through the nature reserve Porphyry hill landscape near Gimritz, which is part of the European protected area Porphyry hill landscape northwest of Halle. A valuable mosaic of vegetation, including semi-dry and dry grasslands, heathlands, and orchard meadows is characteristic here. Rare species of animals and plants find suitable habitats. The landscape is shaped by the dark reddish-brown porphyry rock and the striking fault steps, dry valleys, and rock cliffs. The landscape of the adjacent Saale floodplain is determined by the wide and winding course of the Saale river with accompanying riparian forests, reed beds, and tall herbaceous plants.

Parking is available at the parking lot next to the Templars courtyard in Mücheln.
