For cyclists from Twente and the Achterhoek, the Baumberge is a bit like South Limburg for Brabant and Limburg cyclists: It is a hilly area east of Coesfeld that extends towards Havixbeck. The ridge east of the village of Schöppingen is also considered part of the Baumberge. However, you will not find any climbs with more than 80 meters of elevation gain; for that, you need to be in the nearby Teutoburg Forest.

The route starts in Coesfeld in a clockwise direction but can be started at any point along the route.

First, you will climb the Coesfelder Berg. Then, you will take the paved cycle path along the former railway line Billerbeck-Lutum - Burgsteinfurt to Darfeld. You cycle past the beautiful water castle Darfeld. Then you cycle towards Schöppingen on beautiful, very rural roads.

Around Schöppingen, the Schöppinger Berg is ascended six times. Be aware that especially on the east side of this mountain, the roads are occasionally in a slightly worse condition, so descend with caution.

Then you cycle into the beautiful town of Horstmar, and cycle (partly again over the paved railway line) towards Billerbeck.

After Billerbeck, you will encounter another hilly area where many climbs await you, some steep up to 14%.
Although routeyou states that about 1100 meters of elevation gain are covered, my Garmin Edge 800 recorded about 1340 meters of elevation gain on this route.
