W2-4: PIAZZA MATTEI & FONTANA DELLE TARTARUGHE (Turtle Fountain)
The Piazza Mattei is named after one of the residences of the family of the same name, which we will also encounter in the Piazza Piscinulla (W9-5). The gateway at number 19 hides a beautiful medieval courtyard.
The turtle fountain was inaugurated in 1588, but the turtles themselves only arrived a century later as a replacement for 4 dolphins.
