The nature reserve de Malpie is a heathland area with numerous depression areas that formed during the harsh climate of the last ice age, turning this area into a tundra as we now know it in Siberia. The area is also filled with ponds that formed after the groundwater rose and filled the depressions. It was only after 1900 that large parts of the heath were reforested. The nature reserve de Malpie is located between Valkenswaard, Borkel, and Schaft.
