This cycling route connects 6 museums in Southeast Friesland. Starting at the National Braiding Museum in Noordwolde, you’ll ride through the region past expansive meadows, rustic villages, canals and rivers.

Museum hopping
From the National Braiding Museum, cycle to Museum Opsterlân in Gorredijk. Here, you’ll discover the history of the region, with a special focus on archaeology and local heritage.

Next, cycle past the stately estates and historic country houses of Beetsterzwaag towards Drachten. There, you can visit Museum Dr8888, where modern and classical art come together. The museum pays special attention to artists from De Stijl, whose influence can also be seen in several places in the city centre.

Continue your journey to Nij Beets, where the open-air museum offers a vivid insight into life in the past and the poverty in this region.

Next on the itinerary is Museum Heerenveen. Here, you’ll learn more about the history and culture of Heerenveen and its surroundings through a varied collection of art, historical objects and local stories.

Museum Belvédère in Oranjewoud is also a must-see. The museum is known for its collection of modern and contemporary art and is set in a beautiful location amid the wooded landscape of Oranjewoud.
