The Spinola route takes you along two Spinola fortifications that were meant to protect Brabant from the Spaniards during the Eighty Years' War. The Spanish commander Spínola is associated with the Eighty Years' War. Spínola intended to capture Breda during the Eighty Years' War, and for that, the city had to be cut off from the outside world so that no food supplies could be brought in. The outer line ensured that no army could invade from the outside. The second ring, also known as the inner line, served as an attack position and isolated Breda from the outside world. This route takes you along both lines.
