En la mayor parte del valle de Alpbach o Alpbachertal, se encuentra, al igual que aquí a lo largo de este lecho de río, la pizarra de Wildschönau.
Este tipo de piedra es el producto de depósitos de lodo arenoso que se acumularon en el pasado (Ordovícico - hace 500 a 420 millones de años) en un mar profundo y se compactaron en rocas esquistosas. Presenta pocas huellas de vida, pero muchos productos de actividad volcánica. Se desgasta rápidamente y evita que el agua superficial se escurra. Esta roca es responsable de los contornos redondeados del terreno, con praderas exuberantes en las laderas de las montañas y bosques que se oscurecen.
