Este lugar tomó forma en los años 60 cuando, para la construcción de la N60, el paisaje original de pastizales tuvo que dar paso a un lago de 40 hectáreas, incluyendo una isla deshabitada. Según la leyenda, durante los trabajos, un camión quedó atascado aquí y aún se encuentra en el fondo de la excavación.
Además de las actividades recreativas que se han desarrollado aquí desde entonces, surgió un valioso biotopo natural. Especialmente en invierno, se puede encontrar una enorme población de aves en los estanques. Este lugar fue visitado hace más de 10,000 años por cazadores-recolectores, y los primeros agricultores de nuestra región también dejaron pastar aquí a su ganado.
Si mientras tanto te sientes un poco débil, Den Dronk puede ofrecerte consuelo. Esta taberna es parte de The Outsider, una organización que organiza actividades al aire libre para grupos, escuelas y asociaciones.
