La abadía de Vlierbeek se fundó en 1125 y fue reformada hasta 1796. Fue establecida por los benedictinos de Affligem. El complejo actual consta de una iglesia neoclásica y el nuevo apartamento abacial neoclásico, que pertenece a un complejo del siglo XVIII nunca terminado. Detrás del nuevo apartamento abacial se encuentra el antiguo apartamento abacial del siglo XVI, construido en un estilo tradicional de ladrillo y piedra arenisca. Las bodegas se remontan a finales de la Edad Media y forman la parte más antigua del complejo de la abadía. Alrededor del complejo principal se encuentra la antigua granja de la abadía y varios edificios de servicio. De estos edificios, la puerta oeste del siglo XVI es la más antigua.
