Limita al oeste con Gaume y al este con el Gran Ducado de Luxemburgo. Se encuentra al sur de las Ardenas y ya no se considera parte de ellas. Coincide en gran parte con el distrito de Arlon. Arlon es la ciudad principal de esta región. En la Tierra de Arlon, el idioma popular ha sido históricamente el luxemburgués, que también se habla en el vecino Gran Ducado de Luxemburgo. En 1990, la Comunidad Francesa reconoció las lenguas regionales en su territorio, incluyendo el luxemburgués, aunque sin tomar más medidas.
