Houffalize es el centro de la Alta Ourthe. Es un pequeño pueblo que se ha asentado en la curva de un meandro del Ourthe. También aquí la ofensa de las Ardenas a principios de 1945 hizo su devastador trabajo. Prueba de ello es un tanque Pantera alemán, que fue recuperado del río tras la ofensa y ahora se ha detenido en una plaza. El tanque, que fue construido en 1942 para el frente oriental, pesa 43 toneladas, tiene un blindaje de 110 mm, un cañón de 75 mm y dos ametralladoras de 7,92 mm. En la ofensa de aquella época, el Panther superó todos los tanques estadounidenses y británicos.
