El área protegida de Steinberg / Im Hagen, con un tamaño de 21,92 ha, se encuentra al sur de Ostwig en el municipio de Bestwig. El área fue designada en 2008 como zona protegida por el plan paisajístico de Bestwig por el distrito de Hochsauerland. Desde 2004, el área es una de las diez subregiones del sitio de hábitats de fauna y flora de cuevas y túneles cerca de Bestwig y Olsberg en el sistema europeo de áreas protegidas según Natura 2000. Solo la parte noreste del NSG no pertenece al área FFH.
