Por la cuna del castellano.
La octava etapa comienza en territorio de la provincia de Burgos, recorriendo posteriormente el municipio alavés de Valdegovía a medida que se adentra en la comarca de los Valles Alaveses, siguiendo la vega fluvial del río Omecillo, declarado como Lugar de Importancia Comunitaria por su alto valor ecológico. La reducida longitud de la etapa permitirá al senderista detenerse a visitar los importantes elementos históricos por los que discurre, como la localidad burgalesa de Valpuesta, donde se encuentran los considerados como primeros escritos de la lengua castellana, o las torres y fortines que salpican el municipio de Valdegovía, especialmente la Torre-Palacio de los Varona.
