La basílica de San Lorenzo, cuyo nombre completo es basílica colegial prepositural de San Lorenzo Mayor , es una basílica católica de Milán construida en tiempos romanos. Entre las iglesias más antiguas de la ciudad, el edificio fue reconstruido y modificado varias veces en las formas externas conservando casi por completo la planta primitiva de la época tardo-imperial, que se construyó entre 390 y 410:[1] junto con las opuestas columnas de San Lorenzo, un tiempo parte del antiportico del edificio, se considera uno de los principales complejos monumentales de la época romana tardoimperial de Milán, en el período en el que la ciudad romana de Mediolanum fue la capital del Imperio Romano de Occidente . También se cree que la basílica es el primer edificio de simetría central del Occidente cristiano[2] y una de las basílicas paleocristianas de Milán.
