San Mateo en Merulana fue un título cardenalicio de la Iglesia católica. Fue instaurado en 112 por el papa Alejandro I. El papa Gregorio I lo suprimió en el año 600, reemplazándolo por el de San Esteban en Monte Celio, pero fue restaurado por León X el 1 de julio de 1517 cuando aumento el número de cardenales. El titular titular fue el cardenal Egidio da Viterbo, O.S.A. que lo pidió expresamente, puesto que la iglesia de San Mateo fue de los agustinos desde el siglo V. En 1776 el papa Pío VI dejó de asignarlo debido al deterioro de la iglesia. El 23 de diciembre de 1801 fue suprimido por el papa Pío VII que lo transfirió al de Santa María de la Victoria.
