Se menciona por primera vez en 987.
El edificio actual, que data del siglo XIII, tiene una fachada a dos aguas, cubierta en la parte inferior por una serie de arcos con bandas de mármol bicolor, sostenidos por capiteles ornamentados; en el centro hay un portal profundamente tallado con capiteles frondosos y figuras humanas. El mismo diseño está presente en el registro superior.
El interior sufrió importantes reformas entre 1826 y 1827, cambiando el aspecto original y creando un salón de estilo neoclásico.
En el presbiterio hay una Virgen con el Niño de Andrea della Robbia en terracota vidriada (siglo XV), encerrada en un tabernáculo de mármol esculpido por Balsimelli di Settignano; también cabe destacar una Sagrada Familia de Carlo Maratta (siglo XVII) y la Virgen de la Redención, un fresco atribuido a Cenni di Francesco di ser Cenni (siglo XV).
