El dique de Hondsbossche y Pettemer se construyó en 1880 después de que las dunas naturales fueran rompidas por inundaciones repetidas. Sigues el camino para bicicletas en la cima del dique a lo largo de la costa. A lo largo de los años, en esta barrera artificial se ha formado un nuevo biotopo natural que ahora constituye un área natural protegida. En el camino hay un magnífico mirador sobre el área natural.
