La República Popular Ucraniana fue un Estado ucraniano proclamado tras la guerra de independencia de Ucrania el 20 de noviembre de 1917, en el cual se reclamaba los territorios mayoritariamente habitados por ucranianos; la actual Ucrania, Kubán e importantes territorios de la actual Rusia, Bielorrusia y Polonia. Pese a esto las fronteras de los territorios controlados no estuvieron claramente establecidos.[1]
La existencia de la república se divide en dos períodos: la Rada Central Ucraniana, establecida entre noviembre de 1917 y abril de 1918, y el Directorio de Ucrania, establecido entre noviembre de 1918 y febrero de 1921. Estos dos períodos estuvieron interrumpidos por el golpe de estado de Pavló Skoropadski y el consiguiente establecimiento del II Hetmanato, que estuvo apoyado por las potencias centrales.
