La Iglesia Episcopal de San Juan está ubicada en 2326 Woodward Avenue en el Downtown de Detroit, Míchigan. Es la más antigua que aún se encuentra en Woodward Avenue, un área que alguna vez se llamó Piety Hill por su gran cantidad de edificios religiosos.[1] Fue incluida en el Registro Nacional de Lugares Históricos en 1982[2] y designada Sitio Histórico del Estado de Míchigan en 1987.[3]
La parroquia de San Juan se organizó en Detroit en 1858, principalmente debido a los esfuerzos de Henry Porter Baldwin, un comerciante exitoso que más tarde se convirtió en gobernador de Míchigan y senador de los Estados Unidos.[4] Porter compró y donó la propiedad, que estaba entonces en las afueras del norte de los límites de la ciudad de Detroit en la esquina de Woodward y High Street . También donó el dinero para construir una rectoría y una capilla de 150 asientos, diseñada por Jordan & Anderson.[4]
