Gaishorn est situé dans la vallée de Palten, entouré par les Alpes de l'Ennstal au nord, les Alpes d'Eisenerz à l'est, et les Alpes de Seckau et les Tauern de Rottenmann à l'ouest. Il se trouve sur l'ancienne Salzstraße de Selzthal à Sankt Michael en Haute-Styrie, par le col de Schober.
