Inscrit au patrimoine civil public de Wallonie, cet immeuble communal "dessiné", tranchant très nettement avec les volumes traditionnels qu'il côtoie, est inspiré du néoclassicisme. Il a été construit entre 1864 et 1873 sur les plans de l'architecte Bouvrie. La façade a été réalisée en pierre de taille granitique d'Ecaussines. Il est flanqué d'un impressionnant escalier à double volée qui a remplacé le perron monumental.
