Le peuplement actuel de l'arbre de la forêt canadienne a environ un siècle et est principalement composé de chêne sessile et de châtaignier. Dans les années 1970, cette forêt a été envahie par des résidences de week-end, mais presque toutes ont disparu. Cette forêt fait, tout comme la forêt de Sixtus, la forêt de Bardelen et la forêt de Dozighem, partie d'un complexe forestier morcelé généralement désigné sous le nom de forêts de Sixtus.
