Depuis 1895, le Mariapark avec la grotte de Lourdes en Belgique et aux Pays-Bas est un lieu de pèlerinage connu.
La première apparition de Marie à Lourdes a également suscité une dévotion mariale sans précédent à Meersel-Dreef.
Les capucins ont profité de cela et 'Notre-Dame de Lourdes à Meersel-Dreef' est devenue le pivot de la dévotion à la frontière.
La forêt en face du monastère, qui servait initialement de jardin de monastère, a reçu une nouvelle destination en tant que parc de dévotion.
Père Jan Baptist Rutten avait promis de construire une grotte de Lourdes s'il rentrait sain et sauf d'une mission au Punjab (Pakistan). Et ainsi fut fait.
Le Mariapark est accessible du lever au coucher du soleil.
