Bennau est une commune suisse du canton de Schwytz. Elle appartient au district d’Einsiedeln et compte environ 900 habitants.
Le village se trouve sur le bord nord de la haute lande de Rothenthurm, au confluent de l’Alp et du Biber.
Il a été mentionné pour la première fois dans un document en 1331 sous le nom de Bennowa, ce qui signifie Bennos Au. Benno fut chanoine de Strasbourg et évêque de Metz de 927 à 929. Il se retira dans la cellule de Meinrad, où il mourut en 940.
