Saint-Laurent-du-Pont est une commune française située, géographiquement dans le massif de la Chartreuse, administrativement dans le département de l'Isère, en région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes et, autrefois rattachée à l'ancienne province du Dauphiné.Le bourg est situé dans une vallée, à mi-chemin entre les agglomérations de Grenoble et Chambéry, mais aussi, à proximité des gorges du Guiers Mort qui abrite notamment le monastère de la Grande Chartreuse, premier monastère et maison-mère des moines-ermites de l'ordre des Chartreux, ainsi que l'ancienne chartreuse de Currière qui lui fut rattachée. Saint-Laurent-du-Pont héberge le bureau centralisateur du nouveau canton de Chartreuse-Guiers, créé en 2014, et dont elle constitue la deuxième commune en population.
