Kilwinning est remarquable pour abriter la Loge originale des Francs-Maçons. Lorsque les Loges ont été renumérotées, Kilwinning a été conservée comme Loge numéro '0', la Loge Mère de l'Écosse. L'origine de la Loge est incertaine, le premier document faisant mention étant les Statuts de Schaw de 1598 et 1599 qui l'identifient dans son premier paragraphe comme la "heid and secund ludge of Scotland".
