Ikaría , en français Icarie, appelée localement Nikaria ou Nicaria , avec pour ancien nom Dolíchē , est une île grecque de la mer Égée orientale. Elle tire son nom d’Icare, le fils de Dédale dans la mythologie grecque, qui serait tombé dans la mer proche de l’île.
Deux origines sont proposées pour le nom de l'île. Il pourrait provenir du phénicien Ikor qui ferait référence à l'abondance de poissons se trouvant dans les eaux environnant Ikaria. L'interprétation la plus répandue est celle de la légende d'Icare, fils de Dédale, qui serait tombé dans les eaux proches de l'île lorsque les ailes qui lui avaient permis de s'échapper du labyrinthe fondirent car il s'était approché trop près du soleil.
