En 1336, une jeune fille admise à l'hôpital de S. Donnino ou S. Lorenzo fut miraculeusement guérie d'une longue maladie, par l'intercession de la Bienheureuse Vierge Marie. Après le miracle, l'infirmerie fut transformée en oratoire ; mais au XVe siècle, une nouvelle église a été construite à sa place, dédiée à S. Maria delle Grazie, également connue sous le nom d'église du lit, car le lit de la fille miraculeuse a été conservé.
