Les deux tours originales datent de l'époque normande (XIIe siècle) et étaient reliées au Château de Vénus par un pont-levis. Par la suite, une troisième tour et un mur d'enceinte furent construits, avec une porte d'entrée surmontée d'un arc avec les armoiries des Habsbourg espagnols.
Au cours des siècles suivants , le complexe tomba en ruine. Elle fut transférée à la municipalité pendant la Réforme Bourbon (1818-1819) et fut donnée en concession au comte Agostino Sieri Pepoli, qui commença sa rénovation en 1872 et reconstruisit la tour pentagonale qui avait été démolie. Il crée également un jardin public anglais (Giardino del Balio).
