Elspeet est situé à environ dix kilomètres au sud de Nunspeet, dont il fait également partie. Ensemble, ils font partie de la province néerlandaise de Gelderland. Le village touristique, avec plus de 4000 habitants, se trouve dans une enclave agricole, entouré de forêts et de landes.
Le village est toujours connu pour son caractère très religieux. Lors des élections municipales du 7 mars 2006, le SGP a reçu 63,2 % des voix. Plus de 90 % des voix ont été exprimées en faveur d'un parti chrétien.
