Le Gouffre de Noorderklip constitue un passage navigable important dans la Biesbosch brabançonne. Le ruisseau commence comme une large branche occidentale du Steurgat. La partie supérieure du Gouffre de Noorderklip, qui forme la frontière entre la soi-disant Noordwaard et Zuidwaard de la Biesbosch, est appelée Reugt ou Ruigt. Quelques kilomètres en aval, le nom change en Gouffre de Noorderklip.
