Jamestown était un village de Virginie fondé le 14 mai 1607 sur une île de la rive gauche de la James River, située à une cinquantaine de kilomètres de la baie de Chesapeake, au niveau de l'actuelle ville de Williamsburg, sur la côte est des États-Unis.
Il s'agissait de la première colonie britannique permanente sur le continent américain, une ancienne implantation à Roanoke ayant disparu dans des circonstances mystérieuses. Le cours d'eau et la ville tirent leur nom du roi Jacques Ier d'Angleterre qui venait de monter sur le trône d'Angleterre en 1603.
