Il beguinaggio di Aarschot fu fondato nel 1259 dopo che Enrico III di Brabante e Aleid di Borgogna donarono il loro fienile e i terreni circostanti per la sua creazione, nelle vicinanze della Chiesa di Nostra Signora. Nel 1543, ad eccezione delle "Sette Dolori", l'intero beguinaggio fu distrutto da un incendio. Solo più di un secolo dopo si iniziò la ristrutturazione dell'area. Tuttavia, il carattere originale del patrimonio è andato perduto a causa delle innovazioni nelle vicinanze del beguinaggio, realizzate dalla città di Aarschot stessa.
