La chiesa di Saint-Ursmer a Lobbes può essere considerata la più antica chiesa della Valonia.
La navata e i due transetti almeno appartengono, infatti, all'epoca carolingia.
Fin dalla fine dell'XI secolo – o, secondo uno studio recente, fin dalla fine del X secolo periodo durante il quale fu installato un capitolo di canonici – la chiesa fu modificata, in particolare con l'ampliamento del coro e con la ristrutturazione della vasta cripta semi-interrata ancora conservata.
