Attuale scuola primaria mista Sint-Franciscus, che risale alla scuola elementare cattolica per ragazze del quartiere Sombeke, costruita nel 1880. Prima di allora, l'istruzione era già fornita dai religiosi di San Giuseppe di Elversele, subentrati dalle suore Maricolen di Waasmunster (dalle 1968 suore Maria di Francesco). A sinistra, lungo Sombekedries, le suore costruirono nel 1890 accanto alla scuola elementare per ragazze un monastero con una casa per bambini abbandonati, orfani, anziani e boarders, trasformato nel periodo 1914-1918 in collegio di San Giuseppe con istruzione secondaria. Questo complesso neogotico di grande impatto, progettato dal maestro d'opera Modest De Noyette, è stato però intanto demolito.
