La galleria del San Bernardino è stata costruita tra il 1961 e il 1967, e collega i villaggi di Hinterrhein con San Bernardino , nel canton Grigioni. Venne inaugurata il 1º dicembre 1967. La galleria rappresenta l'opera principale dell'autostrada A13 tra Sankt Margrethen e Bellinzona, e permette di evitare il passo del San Bernardino.
La galleria collega la Svizzera tedesca con quella italiana e rappresenta, per importanza, il secondo collegamento attraverso le Alpi in Svizzera per il traffico di merci su strada e individuale. Si tratta di una galleria ad un solo tubo con traffico bidirezionale, e la velocità massima ammessa è di 80 km/h.
