Fondata nel 1911, HEC Lausanne è una facoltà di commercio e di economia affiliata con l'Università di Losanna.

Nel 1890 l'accademia di Losanna è riconosciuta come università, e i corsi di economia politica sono tenuti nella facoltà di legge. Léon Walras fondatore della facoltà di Losanna e autore della teoria dell'Equilibrio generale, al quale si aggiunge Vilfredo Pareto , autore conosciuto per la teoria dell'Optimum, hanno segnato l'inizio della facoltà.
Leon Morf e Georges Paillard hanno fondato la scuola di Hautes Etudes Commerciales il 15 aprile 1911 nel quadro della facoltà di legge, che ha iniziato con 12 studenti.
