Gangelt è un comune nel Land della Renania Settentrionale-Vestfalia, situato nel distretto di Heinsberg. Il comune conta 12.733 abitanti su una superficie di 48,73 km². La città conta 2.595 abitanti.
Gangelt è stato menzionato per la prima volta per iscritto nell'828. Originariamente un dominio reale, in seguito passò alla Signoria di Heinsberg. Fino all'epoca francese, Gangelt insieme a Waldfeucht e Millen formò un'unità amministrativa sotto l'alternarsi delle giurisdizioni di Gheldria, Heinsberg, Limburg e dal 1378 sotto il governo Brabantino. Dal 1499 Gangelt passò definitivamente sotto il Ducato di Gulik.
