Egelsbach è uno dei 13 comuni del distretto di Offenbach. Si trova a 117 metri sul livello del mare e si estende per 14,82 km² . Confina a nord-est con il comune di Langen, a sud con la città di Darmstadt ed a ovest con la cittadina di Mörfelden-Walldorf.
Nel 1275, Egelsbach ebbe la sua prima menzione documentaria, apparteneva alla Dinastia dei Falkenstein. Nel 1486, conclusasi la dinastia maschile degli stessi, il territorio fu ereditato dalla Contea di Isenburg. Nel 1526 dopo la riforma dei territori, divenne un villaggio.
